Minerals and trace minerals

There are a great many Doctors, nutritionist, and other health specialists out there who will tell you that eating a well balanced diet is all you need to do to stay healthy.

Perhaps these people aren’t aware that several years ago our government did the most extensive research project ever done on the American diet. The U.S. Department of Agriculture studied the diets of a cross section of over 21,000 men and women and the findings were shocking! They found that not one single person in the study was getting all of the minimum daily requirements of the RDA's (Recommended Daily Allowance) from the food they ate.

Is there a link between this and what is happening in our country today? The recent findings of enormous rises in autism, ADD/ADHD, allergies, asthma, violence, depression, substance abuse, and the list goes on! More and younger Americans are now suffering from degenerative diseases once thought to be associated with old age like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Heart disease, obesity and cancer are so common today it's hard to find one person who isn’t affected. Cases of lupus, MS, fibromyalgia, and infertility in both men and women are also climbing at a staggering rate. Can it all be linked to mass malnutrition?

It is estimated that the average American consumes 10 pounds of chemical additives every year. Some of the most common food additives can block your body’s ability to absorb the needed minerals for life. If this weren’t bad enough the commercial food industry uses artificial fertilizers to grow our food. Fertilizers designed for profit not health, to create higher plant yields, overlooking the requirements for the 26 basic minerals essential to human beings. They are producing nutritionally depleted food!

Any gardener will tell you what happens to the soil when the same plants are grown in the same place year after year. The plants are weak, sometimes they die as seedlings. Why? because the soil has been depleted of the basic minerals needed to grow that particular plant. For example, our food has plenty of phosphorus because plants need it to grow. However, plants do not need chromium or selenium to thrive. Therefore, artificial fertilizers do not contain these and other important minerals. So our food is, for the most part, deficient in chromium and selenium, which are vitally important to help protect you against cancer, diabetes, premature aging, poor brain function and much more.

So, what happens after generations of consuming nutritionally depleted food? Our children are being born unable to absorb the needed nutrients for a normal, healthy life. Everyone knows that a pregnant woman should take a prenatal vitamin/mineral supplement and it’s now widely known that a lack of folic acid causes birth defects. But what about the birth defects you can’t see? The brain which has developed without the needed essential nutrients because the mother’s body was born unable to absorb what was needed?

According to Senate Document #264, 99% of Americans are mineral deficient. This document was published in 1936! The situation is even worse today, as minerals continue to disappear from our soils.

"The fact that Johnnie can't read and that we have a $200 billion annual national medical bill both stem from the same cause - a poor delivery of elements from the soil in, both quality and balance. The brain requires a vast array of nutrients, including vitamins, minerals and amino acids to produce neurotransmitters (brain chemicals that pass messages from cell to cell) and other important brain compounds. Altered brain chemistry can result from deficiency of just a single nutrient, giving rise not only to diminished mental capacity, but also to mental/emotional disturbances and behavioral disorders such as hyperactivity, Attention Deficit Disorder, anxiety, depression, eating disorders (anorexia and bulimia), drug and alcohol addiction, autism and violence. Poor soil quality is the bottom-line common variable responsible for widespread physical and mental deterioration. Poor soil quality makes for nutrient deficient crops, which in turn create weak bodies and minds. Diets lacking in nutrients especially trace minerals - lead not only to physical maladies and impaired learning, but also to antisocial behavior and even violence. It's no coincidence that both degenerative disease and crime are escalating, as IQ and nutritional status decline. These things are connected. And at the bottom of the chain is the connecting link of impoverished soil." Hamaker, John. D. The Survival of Civilization. Annotated by Donald A. Weaver. Michigan/California: Hamaker-Weaver Publishers, 1982.

It is as simple as evolution, we are evolving, just as surely as is our planet, our food is evolving also! The alarming fact is that our foods, fruits and vegetables and grains, are now being raised on millions of acres of land that no longer contain enough of certain needed minerals. No matter how much of them we eat, these foods are starving us! To the human body vitamins without minerals are useless. The same is true of a plant, without proper minerals the plant cannot produce efficient vitamins. It is a proven scientific fact that mineral deficient food leads to diseases and disorders.

Laboratory test prove that the fruits, the vegetables, the grains, the eggs, and even the milk and the meats of today are not what they were a few generations ago. Let’s just look at a simple carrot. You'd think that a carrot is a carrot wouldn't you, that one is about as good as another as far as nourishment is concerned? But it isn't; one carrot may look and taste like another and yet be lacking in the particular mineral element which our system requires and which carrots are supposed to provide.

We have become a grocery store society. What about the added pesticides, weed killers, preservatives and genetically altered foods? Mass produce is not only nutritionally deficient but TOXIC! Knowing all this are you going to rely on the modern food chain to help protect you and your family?

Choosing organically grown vegetables is not only smart but life saving. Having your own garden is best. But what do you do when these choices are impossible? You can choose a good all natural multi-mineral and vitamin supplement.

Minerals support the body's functions, but also help form its structure in bone, tissue and body fluids. Minerals come from the earth, and eventually return to the earth, and can most simply be defined as chemical molecules that cannot be reduced to simpler substances. They exist in their inorganic state in the earth, and in their organic state as the basic constituent of all living matter. The main elements essential to health, are termed macrominerals (calcium, phosphorus, chlorine, potassium, sulfur, sodium, magnesium and silicon). The next group of elements, termed microminerals or trace minerals, though found only in minute amounts, are also essential to health (iron, copper, zinc, iodine, cobalt, bromide, boron, manganese, selenium, fluorine, molybdenum, vanadium, arsenic and chromium).
